A131 grade E marine steel plate is to contain at least one of the grain refining elements in sufficient amount to meet the fine grain practice requirements. (see Section 7 of ASTM A131/A131 standard). Hull structural material ASTM A131 grade E marine steel plate in all thickness shall be normalized, or termo-mechanical control processed. And Charpy V-notch test shall be made on A131 grade E marine steel plate over 1/4 in. [6.4mm] in thickness. A131 grade E marine steel plate is intended for ship construction, and can be used in the deep oceans and bear the below-zero temperature surroundings.
